Aircraft. Ukrainian war: Russian carrier out of Oneworld alliance

S7 Airlines temporarily suspended due to sanctions against Moscow

The Russian carrier S7 Airlines has been temporarily suspended from the Oneworld global alliance which includes, among others, American Airlines, British Airways, China's Cathay Pacific, Spain's Iberia, Japan Airlines, Australia's Qantas and Qatar Airways. Reason for exclusion: this is a decision that matured last April 19 as a result of international economic sanctions imposed against Moscow due to the armed invasion in Ukraine.

"S7 Airlines and Oneworld have agreed to suspend S7 Airlines' membership in the alliance as of April 19, 2022, until further notice", on read on the Russian airline's website. So, apparently, a decision taken peacefully and by mutual agreement between the group and the airline.

The decision comes after some commercial agreements between the Group and S7 Airlines had been modified in recent months due to the war in Ukraine. From March 1, in fact, the air carrier had been suspended from the loyalty program that provided for the possibility of booking and accumulating miles by travelling with American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia and Alaska Airlines. The Russian airline joined Oneworld at the end of 2010.
