Italian orchestra dropped from a plane

Hamburg airport closed at 11 pm and the aircraft could no longer take off

Musicians from the orchestra of Milan's La Scala theater were forced off a plane that was supposed to take them back to Italy at the end of the last concert of the spring tour held in Hamburg, Germany. The reason? The closure of the German airport at 11:00 pm and thus the failure to give the go-ahead, after the passengers had boarded, for the aircraft to take off, resulting in them disembarking from the plane and returning to their hotel.

The Philharmonic, consisting of 107 people conducted by Riccardo Chailly, performed a concert at the Elbphilharmonie yesterday at 6:30 pm. At the end of the event, the musicians boarded the coaches that transported them to the German airport, where they arrived shortly after 9:00 pm. Due to lengthy security checks, including on individual musical instruments, the scheduled departure at 10:00 pm slipped.

Then there was no time to complete the procedures. In fact, since the airport is located in a populated area, from 11:00 pm until 6:00 am there is a ban on air connections. No aircraft can take off or land. So the orchestra, after a long wait at the airport and having spent the night in the hotel, left this morning at 10:30 am.
