Brussels buys 10 firefighting planes

Announcement today in Strasbourg: three helicopters are among the purchases

The European Union has announced that it will purchase 10 new amphibious aircraft and 3 additional firefighting helicopters to complete the fleet that fights tens of thousands of fires across the Old Continent every year. This is what emerged during the speech on the state of the Union in the hall of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

"No country can fight extreme weather events and their destructive forces alone. This summer we sent planes from Greece, Sweden or Italy to fight fires in France and Germany", explained the president of the European Commission. Ursula von der Leyen .

"But as these events become more frequent and intense, Europe will need more capabilities. This is why I announce today -added the President of the European Commission- that we will double our fire fighting capacity in the next year", and "this is solidarity. European in action".
