Genoa Airport: operations suspended

Air connections interrupted due to a protest by Ansaldo Energia workers

Operations at the "Cristoforo Colombo" airport of Genoa-Sestri Levante have been suspended in these hours. The cause is a protest by the workers of the Ansaldo Energia company, who entered the airport this morning, effectively occupying the entrance hall. The mobilization, which reached the second day of the strike, yesterday led to the blocking of city traffic. The workers ask the property not to close the plant.

"Due to the supervision in progress, airport operations are temporarily suspended. Passengers are invited to leave the airport. Public transport services are available on the ground floor", the airport manager said on its website.

"What we were asking for did not arrive, that is, a document from the CdP (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti) in which it is said that the company is recapitalized by saving the place of workers. In the second point of the CdP letter, sent yesterday, it is written that the recapitalization it will be only if there is the industrial plan which will be a plan of tears and blood", explained the coordinator of the RSU (unitary union representation) Federico Grondona

It all started this morning when a procession left the Campi factory at around 9:30. The group, made up of hundreds of workers, headed towards Piazza Massena and the Genoa-Cornigliano bridge. The procession then reached the airport and, after a few moments of tension with the police, entered the airport.
