Aircraft and transport: rising prices of air tickets

Walsh (IATA): "The inevitable impact of the increase in costs of harmful emissions and fuel"

Airline ticket prices will be higher. This was stated by the leaders of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), an organization that brings together most of the major airlines in the world. According to the association, this increase is determined by the objective of reducing the volume of harmful emissions to zero by 2050. For this reason, IATA hopes among the solutions to increase the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

"An industry that averages a dollar profit per customer cannot be expected to absorb the economic increases we have seen. airline ticket prices as the industry moves towards net-zero. Airlines cannot absorb rising costs", said Willie Walsh, IATA director general.

Airfares have increased this year mainly due to the increase in prices of conventional fossil-based fuel. Also for this reason, Walsh praised the efforts of the United States to increase the production of Saf and biofuels, while he defined Brussels' hypothesis of forcing airports to offer increasing supplies of Saf as "penalistic", since fuel is scarcely available.
