Covid tests mandatory (2): pressing on Brussels

Italy wants to extend flight restrictions to EU member States to intercept transits in third countries

After China ordered the end of the restrictions (stop quarantine, masks and tampons remain mandatory) on international air connections, the Italian council of ministers, as well as other countries in the world, made tests for Covid-19 mandatory at airports for passengers arriving from China. Each swab will then be sequenced in search of new variants of the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

This is what was ordered yesterday by the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci. Now the vice president of the Council of Ministers, Matteo Salvini, head of the department of Infrastructure and transport (Mit), wants to put pressure on the European Union transport commissioner, Adina Valean, so that similar measures are implemented in all member countries. The identification and traceability of infections, in fact, is made more problematic when planes make a stopover in third countries.

Passengers who tested positive in Italy will have to respect fiduciary isolation and stay at home for 7 days if asymptomatic or with few symptoms. Hospitalization is foreseen for the most serious cases. "Epidemic prevention measures are appropriate, without disadvantaging normal exchanges between populations", is the comment of diplomatic sources from the Chinese embassy in Rome, questioned by the "Ansa" news agency.
