ITA Airways: Lufthansa offer in this week

Among the cruxes of the proposal: conditions on ex-Alitalia labor disputes and low-cost incentives

The privatization procedure of the national air carrier ITA Airways enters a week that could be decisive for the future of the company. The German aviation group Lufthansa could in fact formalize the acquisition offer of the airline controlled 100% by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

The decree of the council of ministers has traced the road-map on the modalities of divestment of the shareholding of the MEF in the capital of the airline. The direct negotiation between the Italian Executive and the German airline will be "carried out in several stages, without prejudice to the acknowledgment of the MEF with adequate powers to oversee the pursuit" of the set objectives.

According to rumors, Lufthansa could put 350 million euros on the plate (capital increase) to acquire 40% of the capital of ITA Airways (valued at a total of 850 million). However, the German company sets conditions: "exemptions to protect themselves from possible economic unexpected events" deriving from 1147 labor lawsuits related to the transition from Alitalia to ITA, and the incentives of Regions and airport managers to low-cost, to the detriment of ITA.
