USA: accident between 2 military helicopters

US Army aircraft crash in Alaska killing three soldiers

Two US Army Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopters crashed in the past few hours near the Healy area of Alaska, more than 200 miles north of the city of Anchorage. The Communication Office of the Army reported that there were four people on board: the result of the accident is three victims and one wounded. The aircraft were performing a return flight after a training mission.

"This is an incalculable loss to the families of our soldiers, to their fellow soldiers and to our division", said Major General Brian Eifler, commanding general of the US Army's 11th Airborne Division, in a statement. The crashed helicopters belonged to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion and the 25th Aviation Regiment, both based at Fort Wainwright Army Base.

The plane crash is just the latest in a long line of crashes recently involving US Army helicopters. The last one dates back to March 30, when two Black Hawk helicopters collided during a training mission in Kentucky, killing nine soldiers. In February however, still in Alaska, two other servicemen were injured when an Apache aircraft crashed to the ground immediately after take-off.
