Ministry of Defense: "No hope of locating survivors"

The Australian Ministry of Defense announced that there is no longer any hope of locating the survivors who were on board an MRH-90 Taipan military helicopter (version designed for the Australian army by the European manufacturer NHIndustries NH-90) crashed last Friday during a military exercise in waters off Queensland. The cause of the accident is unknown and is currently being investigated by the investigators.

Meanwhile, the search for the missing crew continues. The four soldiers who were on board the aircraft are: Captain Daniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Commander Second Class Joseph Laycock and Commander Alexander Naggs. The Australian Armed Forces advised that a significant amount of wreckage from the aircraft has been recovered today.

Ordered the grounding of all Australian Army MRH-90 fleet military helicopters. It'is a decision taken for safety reasons and which will be withdrawn after the investigators have identified the exact cause and dynamics of the accident. It is the second time that an Australian Taipan aircraft crashed in 2023, always going down into the water during a training exercise.
