East Timor to join United Nations
Dili, East Timor - UN General Assembly approves the admission of its 191st member state
The United Nations General Assembly approved today the admission of East Timor into the Organization. East Timor was granted independence from Indonesia last May after a 24-year civil war. The first acts of the 88-member Parliament of East Timor were the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the request to join UN. East Timor is the 191st member state to join UN.
